Experiences and Tips from Working Professional Parents

January 22, 2016

Future Leaders of Yale sponsored a Parenting Panel lead by FLY co-chair Rebecca DeSalvo on Wednesday, January 20. Staff from different parts of the university joined in together to share experiences about parenting. Topics of discussions ranged from finding balance, co-parenting, parental leave, travel distance and a variety of child care options. Among young professionals, using technology tools such as Google Calendar and Wunderlist were key in staying organized.

We spoke about “me” time for parents to recharge and the impossible task for primary parents of young children to de-stress. Some staff members were grateful about managers that supported and understood the challenges of young parents, while others had concerns about the short time off allowed to bond and care for newborns or adopted children. It was a wonderful session filled with many resources and perspectives for FLY members.
