Description

“Navigating Conflict” is a half-day, interactive workshop designed to promote an understanding of how people typically deal with conflict and introduces a model for successfully steering potential conflict in a constructive direction. During this session, participants will take the Thomas-Killman Conflict Mode Instrument to learn the benefits and downsides of their usual approach to navigating conflict, understand the advantages other options can provide when difficult situations arise, and will be introduced to the Interest-Based Problem Solving model as a method for constructively dealing with conflict. Through presentation, exercise and discussion with classmates, participants will:

  • Become more aware of their own conflict style and the conflict styles of others
  • Expand their conflict managing skill set
  • Improve their ability to assess what mode is appropriate for different types of conflict
  • Learn how to use interest-based problem solving techniques to diffuse difficult situations
