Join FLY in Supporting United Way

November 18, 2015

Each year, the Yale University Community joins together to support United Way of Greater New Haven through a campus-wide fundraising campaign. This campaign provides United Way with needed resources to affect long term change in Yale’s home city. President Peter Salovey, Vice President Bruce Alexander, City of New Haven Mayor Toni N. Harp, and senior leadership from United Way of Greater New Haven launched this year’s campaign in late October.

The University is committed to making this year’s campaign a success and will match up to $100,000 for new or increased payroll donations with a gift to United Way. President Salovey helped define the role of United Way by stating that the organization “is about change, not charity.”

United Way of Greater New Haven is dedicated to housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, improving the bond between parents and children, and working with the school system to decrease behavioral problems and discipline incidents and increase family involvement.

As a FLY member, I am happy to serve on the University’s Core Committee for the United Way Campaign and I ask fellow FLY members to support the campaign. Become a Champion, donate, and take part in awareness events, such as the Chili and Chowder Cook-off on Monday, November 23 at noon in the Commons Dining Hall at the Schwarzman Center.
