Annual Season of Giving Thanksgiving Fundraiser

Annual Season of Giving Thanksgiving Fundraiser
November 22, 2019

Since 2016, the Yale Police Department (YPD) Turkey Giveaway has fed over 3,500 New Haven Residents. We have worked with the alders, the schools, and local non-profit groups within the City of New Haven to pinpoint elderly, disabled persons, and families that are truly in need during the holiday season. In the past, this event allowed Yale Police Officers and Yale University Volunteers to deliver turkeys and full meals directly to the doors of residents in need living within the City of New Haven. In 2018, we were able to giveaway 223 turkeys and 90 full meals with the help of donations and volunteers from Yale University and the City of New Haven. This year, we have a goal of 300 turkeys and 150 full meals!

We are looking for volunteers and/or donations to purchase turkeys and non-perishable foods. Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Yale Police Department at 101 Ashmun Street. Checks can be made out to Our New Haven Inc. Money can also be sent via Venmo (@OURNEWHAVENINC) or Cashapp ($OURNEWHAVENINC). The event takes place on November 22nd at Wexler/Grant School.

Important dates for volunteering: The Turkey Giveaway is on Friday, November 22nd at Wexler Grant School, which is located at 55 Foote Street, beginning at 4:30 pm. Volunteers will be needed starting at 2 pm for as long as they can stay. On November 20th and 21st, volunteers will be needed to pack food bags from 12-1 pm on both days.
