Become a New Haven Reads Tutor and Change Lives!

December 5, 2014

New Haven Reads serves its community not only as a local book bank but also by offering one-on-one weekly tutoring to students in the area. Tutoring increases the literacy skills of children, which helps contribute to their academic success and can change their lives! It is done on an individual basis so it’s very accommodating for your schedule. It is a minimum of only 1 hour a week, and you can choose whichever day and time fits your schedule best. FLY member Christine Nguyen has been working with one high school student every week since the beginning of the school year. She enjoys it because “it’s really rewarding being able to see his academic growth as well as foster a bond”.

Their next “semester” begins on January 5th after the break. Tutors can join at any point, but January 5th would serve as a good date to aim for. Tutors need to go through a brief rundown and a background check before they can begin tutoring.

If anyone is interested in becoming a reading tutor or has any questions, please send Christine an e-mail. She will be the NHR coordinator next semester.
