Event Recap - Women United Mayo School Supply Drive

Women United’s Day of Caring Photo
December 11, 2020

Thanks to everyone who helped young learners and their families by participating in the Women United Mayo School Supply Drive! Because of your support:

  • 250 Mayo School students received remote learning supply kits who otherwise would not
  • Teachers distributed the supplies to students and families the week of Thanksgiving
  • 40 notes of encouragement were shared with teachers and staff
  • 125 books by African American authors were donated by the Yale African American Affinity Group, including a personal drop off from local author Tyrese Sullivan

With your help, families have additional materials to support children as they learn from home.  When it was first announced that we would remain in the Remote Learning Model, we had concerns about instruction. We knew that families would have some supplies, but we wondered if they would need additional support to order and purchase resources. That is when Women United coordinated a School Supply Drive to collect school supplies for every child at our school. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity, but we made a short video to show you how much we appreciate your benevolence. Please use the link to view the presentation https://youtu.be/1ugcEH5zedM. As you might imagine, the pandemic added to the complexity of our work. Still, Women United and the United Way’s generosity has allowed us to support children until we can resume in-person learning.  We are looking forward to seeing our children and partnering with you to continue to enrich their lives.” - Principal Monique Brunson, Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Childhood School
