As one of our newest Community Outreach partnerships, FLY is collaborating with Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS) in New Haven. IRIS is currently seeking FLY volunteers to be Cultural Companions to pair a FLY member with an IRIS refugee client to regularly meet and help with their transition into their new life in New Haven. The typical relationship begins with the volunteer in the role of an English tutor; the volunteer also serves as a community guide and cultural mentor to help the refugee learn about and explore New Haven and adapt to life in the United States.
