The goal sounded impossible at the outset: house 75 percent of the Greater New Haven homeless population – 107 individuals – in just 100 days. The latest results are promising: As of July 8, the Challenge has housed 9 people, and 45 more have been matched to housing and are taking the final steps to be able to move into their new homes. An additional 26 have completed the hard task of becoming “document ready,” with the next step to be matched to housing.

Now, when you head to Starbucks for your morning latte, you can support the new phase of someone’s life. Three Starbucks locations – in Orange, West Haven, and Milford – will be collecting goods throughout July for our homeless neighbors who are being housed through the 100-Day Challenge to End Homelessness in Greater New Haven.

You can help welcome them to their new home by making a donation of a new product from among the following household basics: dish detergent, laundry detergent, sponges, toilet paper, feminine products, paper towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and wash cloths.

United Way has played a leadership role in the Challenge, an unprecedented collaboration between some 28 local agencies that work with the homeless population.

Participating Starbucks Locations
538 Boston Post Road, Orange, 203-795-4612; 1319 Boston Post Road, Milford, 203-878-1865; 354 Saw Mill Road, West Haven, 203-479-4022.
