Description

Join Gem Duras and Linda Mejia from Tango Sueño Academy in a virtual tango event featuring a slide show, performances, and a virtual class. After a slide show and some discussion about tango history, music, and dance, Gem and Linda will get you moving with some tango exercises, and a virtual tango class. They will close the event with performances featuring various tango styles and answer questions. Wear your dance shoes (or leather sole) and get ready to tango! This event is co-sponsored by the Yale Latino Networking Group and Future Leaders of Yale.

Gem Duras started his tango training in 1995 initially with the original cast members of the famous show Forever Tango, in particular, the legendary Carlos Gavito. He later visited Buenos Aires numerous times to study ballet, as well as advanced technique and stage tango with younger Forever Tango stars Jesus Velazquez and Francisco Forquera, becoming a certified tango instructor and dancer. He runs the Tango Sueño Academy, teaching professionally throughout Connecticut and Westchester, NY for 18 years. He is also the director of the annual Connecticut Tango Festival.

Linda Mejia has danced various ballroom styles extensively before turning her focus to Argentine Tango eleven years ago. She has performed on stage multiple times in New York, Stamford, and Hartford, in addition to her three appearances at the CT Tango Fest in 2011, 2014, and 2017. Linda is an expert on various aspects of stage tango production and performance.
