Description
Join Future Leaders of Yale, WorkLife, and Working Women’s Network for a virtual introduction to belly dancing workshop with Kelvia Mitri-Haddad. Kelvia is the owner of the Viva Dance & Fitness Center for the Arts, and founder of the Middle Eastern Dance Academy of CT. She is an award winning artist, with a strong foundation in Egyptian technique, and Lebanese oriental styling.
This course will introduce participants to the beautiful ancient art of classic oriental dance, “Raks Sharqi”; most commonly known in the western world as “belly dance”. Experience the self-empowerment that for centuries this dance has been attributed for gifting to its dancers. “Raks Sharqi” gives participants the confidence to embrace their bodies, while developing their strength, and providing fitness benefits.
Attendees will learn about belly dancing through basic dance foundation movements, dance drills, fun combinations, and even a demo performance.
All ages, shapes, and sizes are welcome. No prior dance experience is required.
The Intro to Belly Dance Workshop is part of the FLY Fitness Series, which has consisted of Zumba, Salsa, and Fitness in the Kitchen events thus far. The purpose of the fitness series is to provide a unique virtual experience that will allow for stress reduction, connection, education/awareness, cultural awareness, and fitness, all while supporting local businesses.
